Description:

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary exempt position of "Lifeguard / Instructor”.

Lifeguard/Instructors plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and enjoyable swimming experience by ensuring the safety of pool patrons, instructing quality swimming lessons, and maintaining a clean and functional pool facility.     

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification
  • Current National Lifeguard (Pool Option)
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and recreational benefits
  • Ability to prepare lesson plans, instruct and evaluate participants in a group setting.
  • Ability to accurately count money and reconcile cash totals
  • Ability to deal with public in a courteous and tactful manner and work effectively with other staff
  • Physical ability to perform rescues of pool patrons, apply chemicals, set up deck equipment, etc.
  • Ability to work days, mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends

 Complimentary:

  • Aquafit Certification or BCRPA Fitness Instructor
  • LSI certification 

Wage is $23.00.00 per hour.  These positions are available mid-May until August 31, 2024.  Hours vary from part-time to full-time and include early morning, days, evenings and weekends.
