Rotary Skypark

The Rotary Skypark, one of the Comox Valley’s most popular playgrounds, is located at the Courtenay Airpark near the Cliffe Avenue and Mansfield Drive exit.

Due to its location just south of the Courtenay Airpark, the Rotary Skypark has an airplane theme, with an airplane climber, and a gazebo that kids can pretend is their very own air-traffic control tower. The park also includes a rotating net, arch swing, merry-go-round, see-saw, diggers and spinners.

Universally Accessible

The Skypark is a playground truly for everyone. Designed for accessibility, a recycled rubber tire surface covering most of the park ensures that everyone can get to each station. This surface accommodates wheelchairs, walkers, and people with difficulty getting around.

The merry-go-round is flush with the playground surface, allowing a wheelchair user to roll onto it. Diggers are mounted so kids with mobility issues can easily reach them. Equipment like the spinners cradle a child's body and require little movement to make them fun.

Expression Swing Set

The newest equipment at the Skypark is an Expression Swing installed in June 2016. This innovative swing set promotes intergenerational play, and allows adults and children to swing together and see each other's facial expressions at eye level while they play. Thanks to Strathcona Sunrise Rotary for their partnership to obtain this swing set.

The Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise, The Comox Valley Community Foundation, other local Rotary clubs and the business community helped make this project happen.
