What is Courtenay's history?

Aerial View of CourtenayCourtenay, B.C. has experienced rapid growth over the last few years, and the area is constantly evolving. Looking back at Courtenay as it was many years ago shows how much it really has changed.

The City of Courtenay's Heritage Commission has taken on the task of celebrating Courtenay's history, through heritage commemorations, displays and contests. Through these activities, it is hoped that the stories of our past will live on through future generations.

Heritage Register

The City of Courtenay developed a Heritage Register in 2009. This project was funded by the Federal Department of Canadian Heritage and the Parks Canada Agency, together with the Province of BC.

The City held a Heritage Register Open House on January 8, 2009 at the Courtenay and District Musem and Archives. View the display boards in PDF format.
