Floral Offerings – Courtenay Civic Cemetery
The City of Courtenay would like to take this opportunity to clarify public misunderstanding regarding floral offerings at the Courtenay Cemetery.
Floral offerings have always been permitted at the Courtenay Cemetery, and continue to be permitted providing the in-ground containers supplied by the City are utilized.
For the public’s information, new signs outlining the regulations were installed at the cemetery near the entrances and exits. The following information pertains to floral offerings:
- Following any interment, floral arrangements and wreaths placed outside of the in-ground containers will be permitted to remain for one week.
- Fresh cut flowers may be placed throughout the year and only in City issued in-ground container.
- Artificial flowers and wreaths are permitted between November 1 and March 31, and will be removed after March 31.
- One potted plant not exceeding 6” diameter is permitted for one week at: Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Remembrance Day and Christmas.
We ask that plot holders remove artificial flowers by March 31 in preparation for grass mowing for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Artificial flowers will be permitted on plots beginning November 1 each year.
After each interment, the Caretaker installs one flower container per plot. If for some reason a flower container is not visible, please advise the City and arrangements will be made to have one installed.
The City hopes this provides some clarification to families and the public regarding floral offerings.
For more information, please call City Hall, 250-334-4441.
