Meet anywhere on Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay between 8th and 21st Streets

Have you ever seen 35,000 flowers planted in just one hour? Join hundreds of local volunteers for the 43rd annual Mile of Flowers Plant-In, happening Tuesday June 1 at 5 pm.

This unique Comox Valley event is a sure sign that summer is on the way. No gardening experience is required. Come by yourself and meet new friends or organize a team of friends, family or coworkers.

What to bring:

  • A trowel or spoon for digging
  • Gloves

All of the flowers are provided. Just pick a spot on Cliffe Avenue and start planting! For your comfort and enjoyment, please stay off the road and plant safely from the sidewalk.

The Plant-In will be followed by a community barbeque at Standard Park, located on Cliffe Avenue at 14th Street, courtesy of the City of Courtenay and Courtenay Rotary Club.

The Mile of Flowers was started by Katherine Kirk, who was inspired by a visit to the “Garden of Greetings” in Brighton, England. In 1967 she planted and nurtured 7,800 seedlings as a welcome to tourists and as a contribution to the Centennial Year. What started out as the initiative of one woman has grown into a beloved local tradition.
