Project Watershed presents award to City
The Comox Valley Project Watershed Society has presented the City of Courtenay with an award for “exhibiting leadership in protecting and restoring the estuary.”
The award was announced at the November 7, 2011 City Council meeting. Project Watershed presented the City of Courtenay with a painting by local artist Bev Byerley of the Courtenay River Estuary.
Project Watershed launched the “Courtenay River Estuary – Keeping it Living” campaign in 2010, to promote community knowledge of and pride in the estuary. As the award recipient for 2011-2012, Courtenay will display the painting for one year at City Hall.
Project Watershed chose the City of Courtenay for several actions, including:
Hiring an environmental planner and climate action analyst
Holding a workshop on sea level rise and subsequently establishing a new high water mark for the Courtenay River and Estuary
Supporting a community wide campaign to obtain National Heritage Status for the Courtenay River Estuary
