Volunteers

Any job big or small
Our Volunteers can do them all!

We need you to be a part of our team. In fact, we DEPEND on volunteers to carry out the many recreation programs and services that we offer our community. You CAN make a difference.

Who
Anyone 14 years of age or over: Students, those seeking work experience, seniors, professionals, mothers, fathers or anyone who is young at heart.

Why
Meet new people. Make connections. Gain practical experience and receive valuable training.

Some 14% of those volunteers aged 15 to 64 say that their volunteer experience helped them obtain employment. This figure rises to 24% for younger volunteers aged 15 to 24. (Provided by Volunteer Canada - 1999 National Volunteer Week Info Kit).

Volunteering provides leadership opportunities that build strong communities.

Where, When & What
You may have one, two or several hours a week available or you may just want to help with a one-time special event. We have a variety of opportunities at different times of the year.

You may be interested in assisting with those who have special needs, pre-school arts & crafts, childrens programs, teen youth nights or special events.

Your duties may include assisting with posters & promotion, set-up and take-down of equipment, decorating, hands-on leadership or other areas where you feel you have special skills.

How
Visit the Courtenay Recreation Lewis Centre and complete a volunteer application form. Call us at 250-338-5371 or email lgrutzmacher@courtenay.ca. We will call you to set up a short interview and together, we’ll find a placement that meets both your needs and ours.
