Description:

Courtenay Recreation is looking for fun and energetic individuals who enjoy working with children to join our team as program instructors specializing in Basketball and sports. This is a great opportunity if you share our Core Values, have a desire to continue to learn and grow in the job, are committed to serving the public, and enjoy team work and collaboration. This is a non-union, casual position responsible for working with children 5-12 years old, in structured and unstructured environments.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Active Living Recreation, the instructor will be responsible for:

  • planning, organizing and implementing a quality program enjoyable for all participants
  • the safety and wellbeing of registered participants at all times
  • familiarity and experience in basic basketball skills, play and games
  • providing high level of customer service including greeting, supporting and engaging participants
  • previous sports instruction or coaching experience


Applicants must have experience working with these ages, be willing to work day time, afterschool and some evening hours, be proficient in basketball and sports skills instruction (minimum two years of experience) and have a clean criminal record check.  Current first aid certification is considered an asset.
