Courtenay Canada Day celebrations in and around Lewis Park and Downtown Courtenay are just around the corner and the organizing team has been hard at work preparing free and fun events for June 30 and July 1.

On Friday, June 30 the Night Before Concert at Lewis Park starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes Dolyna Dancers, Laurie Tinkler Dancers, Moonshine Band and Rock Cod. Headlining the concert is indie pop/rock band Yukon Blonde bringing a great mix of dance-rock and synth pop starting at 9:00 p.m.!

On July 1st, some of the great events happening include the 5th Street Mile (CV Roadrunners), the parade down 5th Street, Kids Zone in Lewis Park, Canada Day birthday cake, vendors in Lewis Park and the Kids Bike Draw.

On July 1st performances start on the Lewis Park Stage at 11:00 a.m. and continue until around 3:00 p.m. Performers include Brodie Lee Dawson with Ashley Sykes & Christie Vanden at 11:00 a.m., Completely Creedence at 1:00 p.m., and our headliner Fred Penner at 2:00 p.m. Check the schedule for details.

In Downtown Courtenay performances start at 9:00 a.m. and continue until around 5:00 p.m. The Comox Valley Concert Band plays at 9:00 a.m. at Randy Wiwchar Plaza in front of Sid Williams Theatre. The Courtenay Museum has activities starting at 11:00 a.m. including musician Alan Jossul and crafts. The Courtenay Legion has food and dancing all day. Also, the Tea Dance with Georgia Strait Big Band takes place at the Native Son’s Hall starting at 2:00 pm.

Parade and vendor applications are still being accepted. Food vendors are particularly needed. Come and sell at the biggest party in Courtenay with about 15,000 people expected to attend.
