Courtenay Heritage Advisory Commission Seeking New Members

May 8, 2019

Do you have a passion for heritage? The City of Courtenay Heritage Advisory Commission is looking for new members to join its ranks. The commission advises Courtenay City Council on heritage conservation matters, helps develop heritage policy, and participates in activities to honour and preserve the city’s history, including educational and public awareness programs.

Judy Hagen, Chair of the Heritage Advisory Commission, said the committee is an opportunity to discover and highlight Courtenay’s past. “We encourage anyone with a ‘heart’ for conserving the rich history of our community to consider working with the Commission members as we assist city staff to reflect past achievements,” said Hagen.

“The Commission takes into consideration Courtenay's history so that it can be reflected in future City plans.  We all work together, both at our meetings and workshops to advise Council on heritage matters.”

Members are appointed by City Council.

Duties include:

  • Monthly attendance at commission meetings held on the 4th Wednesday of each month, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. (No meetings in July, August, or December.)
  • Monthly workshops on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
  • Events or conferences as requested
  • Research or site visits as required

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply by providing a letter with details on relevant knowledge, experience, and general interest in heritage conservation.

For more information on this volunteer position, contact Tatsuyuki Setta, City of Courtenay Manager of Planning, at tsetta@courtenay.ca or call 250-703-4839.
