Mayor and council

Council is the elected governing body for the City of Courtenay. It is made up of a Mayor and six councillors.

Under the Community Charter and the Local Government Act, Council has the statutory authority to:

  • provide services
  • set budgets
  • levy taxes
  • establish policies for the benefit and protection of Courtenay residents

Council meetings follow the rules in the Council Procedure Bylaw [PDF/312KB] and Robert's Rules of Order.

Council members are also expected to follow the Council Code of Conduct Bylaw, which sets standards and expectations for their conduct.
