Mayor and council
Council is the elected governing body for the City of Courtenay. It is made up of a Mayor and six councillors.
Under the Community Charter and the Local Government Act, Council has the statutory authority to:
- provide services
- set budgets
- levy taxes
- establish policies for the benefit and protection of Courtenay residents
Council meetings follow the rules in the Council Procedure Bylaw [PDF/312KB] and Robert's Rules of Order.
Council members are also expected to follow the Council Code of Conduct Bylaw, which sets standards and expectations for their conduct.
