The Comox Valley Project Watershed Society has presented the City of Courtenay with an award for “exhibiting leadership in protecting and restoring the estuary.” The award was announced at the November 7, 2011 City Council meeting.

In mid June Mr. Peñalosa visited the Comox Valley to share with the community opportunities for making the Comox Valley a more people friendly place.

The City is working with the developer and local residents to create an opportunity for some property owners in South Courtenay and Electoral Area ‘A’ to be considered for these services. As part of this process, the City would like to know the interest level of property owners in this area.

The City of Courtenay advises that its unionized staff, represented by CUPE 556, have voted to strike. The City has been in negotiations with CUPE 556 for several months, and through a mediator reached a tentative agreement on April 8, 2011. While City Council approved the mediated settlement, the Union advises that their membership rejected the settlement.

The City of Courtenay, in partnership with the Island Corridor Foundation and the Courtenay Rotary Club, is building a new cycle and pedestrian route between 5th Street and Cumberland Road, next to the railway tracks along the E & N Corridor. The "Rail With Trail" will be built between April and September 2011.
