The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of Gymnastics Instructor in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.

The Recreation Programming Division is responsible for the provision of programs and leisure opportunities for all age groups and abilities year-round.  The Division promotes healthy lifestyles and works with individuals and community groups in the provision of recreation services.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general guidance and direction of the Assistant Manager of Active Living Recreation, the Gymnastics Instructor will assist in the implementation, supervision and facilitation of recreational gymnastics programs. They will make recommendations on gymnastics program supplies & equipment; perform gymnastic equipment set up and take down where required; and assist in the monitoring and evaluation of recreational gymnastics programs.

Training and certification can be provided.

This is a non-union position. Hours of work will be part time, as required and may include evenings, days and weekends. Wages starting at $20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications. An additional 4 % of gross wages is paid in lieu of vacation and benefits.

The Successful Candidate Will Have: 

• Grade 12 or equivalent

• Gymnastics Foundations Level 1 (NCCP)

• First Aid Level 1 & CPR C

• Criminal Record Check

• Respect in Sport Certificate

• Trampoline Level 1

• At least 1-year experience in the delivery of Gymnastics in a community setting.

• Knowledge of Gymnastic recreation programs and activities

• Knowledge of the principles of High Five and experience implementing into programming

• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills

• Highly motivated and ability to work as a team and independently

• Demonstrated ability to provide and promote positive values and recreational benefits

• Physical ability to frequently lift heavy objects such as gymnastics equipment & perform participant spotting

• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, afternoon, evenings, weekday and weekends as required for operational requirements.

Complimentary Qualifications:

• Level 2, 3 NCCP

• Level 2,3 Trampoline

Additional requirements after hiring:

• Job-related training and certification will be provided to candidates with skills in gymnastics.
