The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary position of "Summer Day Camp Coordinator”.

The Summer Day Camp Coordinator assists with the supervision of the summer day camp Activity Leader team and plans, and coordinates and summer camp activities, and transports participants as required. The Coordinator is responsible for the training of Summer Camp Activity Leaders, the program planning, the general safety and the overall enjoyment of camp participants; as well as the coordination of special events and daily program operations, including customer relations, and the guidance and mentorship of camp Activity Leaders. The Summer Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for managing potential safety risks and ensuring all equipment, supplies and first aid kits are ready for program operation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma/degree or currently enrolled in Special Education, Human Services, Recreation, or equivalent or related skills and experience
  • Criminal Records Clearance
  • Class 5 Drivers license with clean drivers abstract
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in recreation programming or related discipline
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience
  • Experience and good understanding of program planning, safety, instructional methods and leadership techniques
  • Have a strong commitment to professionalism
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle emergency and discipline situations
  • Strong computer skills
  • Understanding of mental and physical development of children relating to expectation of different age groups and suitable programming
  • Ability to mentor, evaluate, motivate and challenge camp Activity Leaders
  • Knowledge of innovative and exciting program ideas
·         Valid BC Class 4 Drivers License (or willing to obtain)
·         Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C

Wage range is between $28.75 and $33.00 per hour, depending on experience.  Hours of work are between 10-20 hours from April to June; then 40 hours/week from June 17 to August 30; hours range between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm; Monday to Friday.
