Description:

The City of Courtenay invites written applications for a temporary Early Childhood Educator in the Recreation, Cultural and Community Services Department.  This is a union position and is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the current collective agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556, Schedule “C”.

The Early Childhood Educator assists in the planning and facilitation of program activities in a licensed preschool setting; monitors the work of preschool support workers; provides input and suggestions on lesson plans and outdoor activities to the preschool and early years supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 or equivalency;
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate from a recognized educational institution;
  • Current Child Safe or Safety Oriented First Aid-Emergency Level-Childcare and CPR-C;
  • Current Criminal Record Clearance;
  • Eligible for Early Childhood Educators of BC membership;
  • Some (1 year) experience in preschool teaching;
  • Sound knowledge of the Child Care Licensing Act;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and early childhood development;
  • Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues concerning children;
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team;
  • Physical ability to frequently lift preschool children and equipment such as tables and chairs.

This is a temporary full-time position available immediately with an anticipated end date at the end of June, 2024.  The 2024 hourly wage rate is $30.82.  An additional 12.4% of gross wages is paid in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
