Courtenay's sewer utility infrastructure includes over 150 km of sanitary sewer main, 12 sanitary lift stations, 23 pumps, and nearly 7,000 individual connections.

Household and business wastewater is conveyed to the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre, which is operated by the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD).

Ensuring the City's complex sewer infrastructure is running smoothly is the responsibility of Courtenay's Public Works Services division. The City is responsible for the sanitary sewer network up to your property line. Clearing of blockages or pipes on the City side without City staff onsite would not be reimbursed.

You can help keep the system running properly! Please flush responsibly. Toilets and sewer systems are designed to handle pee, poo, and toilet paper. Wipes labelled “flushable” or “biodegradable” don’t break down like toilet paper and end up clogging our sewers and your pipes. Learn more
