Courtenay Fire Department Volunteer Recruitment Open House
The Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new recruits for the 2025-2026 training year. Volunteer applications are now being accepted.

Meet the team, ask questions, and find out what it’s like to join this progressive, inclusive, highly trained department. Around 12 recruits will be selected for the next training year.
Applications are due by June 19, with physical ability testing scheduled for June 26. Interviews will follow in July and August, and the new recruit class will officially begin training in September. Over the course of 12 months, recruits will complete a comprehensive training program and graduate with NFPA 1001 Level 2 Professional Firefighter certification, an internationally recognized certification.
Recruits must live within the City of Courtenay or Courtenay Fire Protection District, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid B.C. driver’s licence and be willing to get a current driver’s abstract and criminal record check. Candidates must also be in good physical condition and available for weekly Wednesday night training sessions.
