Town of Comox Dedicates Tree to Courtenay

November 25, 2015

A special ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon at Simms Millennium Park. Elected officials and staff from the Town of Comox presented the City of Courtenay with a tree and plaque commemorating Courtenay’s 100 year anniversary. Town of Comox Mayor Paul Ives and City of Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula came together to celebrate a long partnership between our two communities with the planting of this tree.

The tree is a Coastal Redwood, like those from the Redwood forest in California. It’s an evergreen that grows between 200 to 300 feet tall. It was chosen by the Town of Comox for its strength, prominence and long life span.

The City of Courtenay gratefully acknowledges this gift from our neighbour in honour of our centennial year. The tree has been planted behind the Pavilion, next to the walking trails.
