Section of 3rd Street to be Closed for Road Work

August 11, 2016

Major reconstruction of a section of 3rd Street in downtown Courtenay is set to begin.

Starting Monday, August 22, 3rd Street between Cliffe Avenue and England Avenue will be closed to regular traffic. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October.

The improvements will include replacement of underground water, storm, and sanitary mains and services, new pavement, curbs and gutters, new sidewalks separated from the roadway by a grassy boulevard, and a reconstructed traffic circle at 3rd and Duncan.

While regular traffic will be detoured around the construction area, local traffic will be permitted. Traffic control personnel will be on site to assist vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists needing to access properties in the construction zone.
