Water Restrictions in effect for Comox Valley Water System

August 29, 2018

From the Comox Valley Regional District:

Starting September 7 to September 14, Stage 3 Water Restrictions will be in effect for the Comox Valley Water System due to BC Hydro's annual maintenance at the Puntledge River generating station.

Under Stage 3 Water Restrictions, residential lawn and garden watering with a sprinkler is not permitted at any time. Hand watering or drip irrigation is permitted between the hours of 6 am – 8 am and 8 pm – 10 pm. Only hoses with an automatic shut-off nozzle can be used for hand watering.

At the conclusion of this maintenance period, the Comox Valley Water System will be returning to Stage 2 restrictions.

Stage 2 Water Restrictions

Under Stage 2 Water Restrictions, watering lawns and gardens with a sprinkler is restricted to the following days/time:

HoursEven AddressOdd AddressNo Sprinklers or Lawn Watering

6-8 am & 8-10 pm

Tuesday & Saturday Wednesday & Sunday

Monday, Thursday & Friday

Watering trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables using a micro-irrigation system, drip-irrigation system, a hand-held container or a hand-held hose equipped with an automatic shut-off nozzle, can be done on any day at any time.

Why do we need water restrictions?

Residents connected to the Comox Valley Water System rely on water drawn from Comox Lake through BC Hydro power generation infrastructure. We are fortunate to have Comox Lake as the source for our drinking water, but the lake does not offer an infinite supply of fresh water.
