Courtenay Dismantling Aqua Dam

March 18, 2019

Due to improved weather conditions and reduced risk of flooding, the Aqua Dam flood barricades along the north side of Lewis Park will be removed this week beginning Tuesday March 19. The Lewis Park walkway at the north end of the park is expected to reopen by the end of the week.

The work is not expected to impact traffic, although some parking spaces in Lewis Park may be occupied by Public Works Services vehicles.

The Aqua Dam is a water-filled, portable, temporary dam that is installed during periods of seasonal high tides and higher rainfall. The Aqua Dam is installed to protect low-lying areas of Courtenay from potential flooding, including the Puntledge Business District. The aqua dam was installed in late December 2018.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while crews complete this work. For more information, please contact City of Courtenay Public Works Services at 250-338-1525 or email publicworks@courtenay.ca
