Cultural Societies Partner on Virtual Reflections for Canada Day

June 23, 2021

Plus: Community flyby conducted by 19 Wing Comox

This year, Canada Day in Courtenay will look different from years past.

As the community grieves over the tragic legacy of residential schools in our country, the Canada Day organizing team has shifted away from original plans for a virtual variety show in favour of a revised program that will reflect the solemnity of these times.

“Canada Day Reflections” is a partnership between Courtenay Recreation, Comox Valley Arts, and the Sid Williams Theatre Society featuring a one-hour virtual performance by the Vancouver Island Symphony Brass Quintet. The quintet will perform both classical and contemporary music set to a backdrop of Canadian landscapes.

The virtual show will be available to watch starting at 12 noon on Thursday July 1 for a 24-hour period, hosted by the Sid Williams Theatre. In addition to the virtual show, Comox Valley Arts has compiled numerous resources and reference documents for learning more about the stories of residential school survivors and the path toward reconciliation.

On Canada Day, 19 Wing Comox will conduct a community flyby at 10 a.m.
