Cooling Options in Courtenay During Heat Wave

Environment Canada has extended the heat warning for East Vancouver Island, including the Comox Valley, with daytime temperatures near or above 30 degrees Celsius to Friday September 2, and overnight lows near 16 degrees.  

During the heat warning, here are a few options to cool down in the City of Courtenay:


The following locations  will be available as a drop-in cooling centre. 

  • Wednesday, August 30: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Florence Filberg Centre Conference Hall (upstairs)
  • Thursday, August 31: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Florence Filberg Centre Conference Hall 
  • Thursday, September 1: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Florence Filberg Centre lower lobby (downstairs) 
  • Friday, September 2: 11: a.m - 7 p.m., Florence Filberg Centre Conference Hall 



Rotary Water Park at Lewis Park: During the heat warning, hours at the water park will be extended from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

Outdoor Pool and Wading Pool: The outdoor pool and wading pool at Lewis Park are great ways to cool down. For schedule information visit
