Free Training Available Through the Strengthening Communities Grant

October 21, 2022

Do you interact or support individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges? If so, check out the free training opportunities available through the Strengthening Communities Grant. This grant funding received in 2021 is being administered by the City of Courtenay and works to strengthen Comox Valley's response to the increased demand and need for critical homelessness support services.

Working with municipal partners and an advisory committee composed of the Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness, Comox Valley Transition Society and Wachiay Friendship Centre, the City oversees the administration of this grant funding to established community outreach providers.

The goal of the training is to increase capacity of eligible applicants to work, support or interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges and work towards culturally safe and trauma-informed responses. Training will be centered from a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lens and from an anti-stigma, culturally competent and trauma-informed perspective.

Upcoming free training opportunities include:

Mental Health at Work in the Front Lines
(Offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association CMHA)
Dates: Thursday November 17, or Wednesday December 14

Introduction to Trauma Informed Practice
(Offered by the Justice Institute of BC)
