Freedom of Information Requests

  • British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FOIPPA”) allows you access to records held by the City of Courtenay. There are exceptions to what information can be released, to protect sensitive and personal information.

  • When submitting a request, please include your contact information, a description of the records you are seeking, and a relevant date range of the records (if applicable).

  • Submit FOI requests by email or in writing: FOI@courtenay.ca or City of Courtenay, FOI Request (Legislative Services), 830 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay, BC, V9N 2J7

  • Legislative Services will respond confirming your request, any associated fees, and when you can expect the requested records. They may also clarify the scope of your request.

  • Normally you will receive the records within 30 business days. If you have requested a large volume of records or third-party records, it may take longer.

  • Records in the custody or control of another public body, such as the RCMP, must be obtained directly from that body
