Mary Murphy & Celtic Cargo Cult Take the Stage at Simms Park!

Enjoy Irish Celtic traditional and original tunes on Sunday, July 23 at 7 p.m. as part of the free Simms Concert Series. The evening features Mary Murphy with Paul Keim and Celtic Cargo Cult.

Mary Murphy’s authenticity takes first generation immigrants home again. She will be singing mostly in English, (and playing whistle) but will be adding some Irish language to further elevate the experience. Joining Mary on guitar will be Paul Keim, or, as Mary likes to call him, Mr Groovacious; as even the softest of ballads own an appealing undulation that draws the listeners in.

Comox Valleys own Celtic Cargo Cult consists of Chris Manuel (lead guitar), David Hext (bass guitar and vocals), and David Somers (guitar and vocals). The band plays original songs by Somers as well as their own arrangements of Irish and Scottish songs. From pub favourites and traditional ballads to Celtic rock, their music is sure to stir your heart and move your feet.

All concerts start at 7:00 p.m. and finish around 8:30 p.m. Simms Millennium Park is located by the 5th Street Bridge and across from Lewis Park. Please bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

For concert information please call the Courtenay Recreation Lewis Centre at 250-338-5371.
