Complete Fire Ban Still In Effect in Courtenay Fire Protection Districts

August 14, 2015

While the Coastal Fire Centre recently lifted the campfire ban on the northern half of Vancouver Island (north of Hindoo Creek [near Buckley Bay], in Strathcona Provincial Park and north of Nootka Sound), a complete fire ban remains in effect within all City of Courtenay contracted Fire Protection Districts due to extremely dry conditions.

This includes:

  • Courtenay Fire Protection District
  • Merville Fire Protection District
  • Tsolum-Farnham Fire Protection District

In addition, open burning is banned year-round within City of Courtenay boundaries.

This has been a very busy summer for the members of the Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department. They thank the public for understanding the need to continue the complete fire ban, and request that particular care be taken when disposing of cigarettes.
