5th Street Bridge Traffic, Sidewalk Update

April 29, 2021

Starting Monday, May 3rd, the 5th Street Bridge will be reduced to single lane alternating traffic with west side detours in effect (downtown side), initially from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks for scaffolding installation, then increasing to 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the remainder of the rehabilitation project.

Also starting on Monday, the north sidewalk (Lewis Park side) will be closed while a temporary sidewalk is built next to it.  During this time, the sidewalk on the south side (Simms Park side) will be open.  Once the temporary sidewalk on the north side is complete and opened, the south sidewalk will then close temporarily while the sidewalk is built on that side.

One sidewalk will remain open at all times. Each sidewalk closure is expected to last approximately four days.  Signage will be in place to assist pedestrians.

Commuters are encouraged to pay close attention to traffic control personnel, new line painting, and signs highlighting changes to traffic patterns in the area and to plan extra time if using the 5th Street crossing.
