May 2, 2023

Courtenay City Council has identified numerous key projects and initiatives as the focus of their four-year Council term. The draft Courtenay Strategic Priorities 2023-2026 translates the vision of Courtenay’s Official Community Plan (OCP) into specific commitments, ensuring the City is delivering the services and programs that residents want and expect.

The public is invited to review the draft strategic priorities and provide feedback at courtenay.ca/strategicpriorities.

Review the draft strategic priorities:

The Strategic Priorities were developed over several months following the fall 2022 municipal election by Council working closely with City staff.

The Strategic Priorities are structured around the OCP’s cardinal directions: climate action, reconciliation, equity, and community well-being; as well as the OCP’s eight themes, to ensure the priorities Council sets are aligned with the community’s vision and aspirations for the City.

“This will be a foundational document for the City and our Council that will shape the course of the next four years, building on the new Official Community Plan adopted in 2022 as well as several other guiding documents,” said Mayor Wells. “Our goal was to build on this vision and assign these numerous priorities for our Council and staff to focus on. We are really proud to share this draft document with the community.”

Categories include: streets and transportation; buildings and landscape; affordable housing; natural environment; parks and recreation; municipal and social infrastructure; arts, culture, and heritage, food systems; local economy; good governance; public safety; financial sustainability; and organizational well-being and sustainability.

To provide feedback, email info@courtenay.ca by Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 1 p.m. The strategic priorities will be considered by Council at the May 10 Council meeting.
