Business Licence Renewals

IMPORTANT NOTE: City Hall is currently shut to the public due to covid-19, so all payments for business licences must be made through your financial institution or by mail or the drop box at City Hall.

Renewal notices are mailed out in mid-November of each year to all businesses that possess a current City of Courtenay business licence. Business licence fees are due by December 31 of each calendar year. If a licence is not obtained by the renewal due date, a late payment fee calculated at 25%, for those licences paid on or after March 1, or 50%, for those licences paid on or after June 1, of the annual licence fee will be charged.

If any changes to the business licence are required, changes must be submitted in writing to the City of Courtenay (businesslicence@courtenay.ca) and a $20.00 fee will be charged for location changes. It is the responsibility of the licence holder to ensure that all of their mailing and contact information is up to date.

For detailed payment instructions please see our Business Licence Payment Guide [PDF - 428 KB]. Once payment has been processed your business licence will be mailed to you.

NOTE: The City of Courtenay does not accept credit cards and are not recommending cash payments at this time.
