Hazelwood Construction Services Inc., working on behalf of the City of Courtenay, will be replacing the existing lift station located inside a concrete block building at 1201 – 1st Street, adjacent to the entrance to Puntledge Park, and upgrading the sanitary sewer system. These upgrades are essential to improve the overall service of the local sewer system, mitigate operational risk, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

Traffic Notices/Project Updates:

  • Single-Lane Alternating Traffic, Oct. 28 - Nov. 1. Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place on 1st Street (between Menzies and Woods avenues) the week of Oct. 28 while crews complete re-installation of sidewalk panels. Please be prepared for delays between 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., or use an alternate route if possible.

The project includes:

  • Installation of a new lift station, including a 7.0m deep wet well, pumps, an above-ground valve chamber, a power and controls kiosk, and site fencing to enclose the new lift station.
  • Installation of approximately 450m length of gravity sanitary sewer main on 1st Street.
  • Installation of approximately 250m length of sanitary sewer force main between 1st Street and Pidcock Avenue through an existing City owned Right of Way.

Traffic and parking impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project. Access to properties and Puntledge Park will be maintained. Traffic control personnel and signage will be in-place to help local traffic, emergency vehicles and pedestrians through the work site as required.
