Sandpiper Drive-Millard Road Watermain Upgrade Project
Start: July 2021
End: October 2021
Last Updated: April 4, 2022
Contractors working on behalf of the City of Courtenay have completed the archaeological pre-dig portion of the contract and will begin installing an upgraded watermain and fire hydrants along Millard Road and Sandpiper Drive.
The majority of the work will take place along the length of Millard Road and the south end of Sandpiper Drive. Fire hydrant installations will also take place near the intersection with Island Highway, and at the north end of Sandpiper Drive.
The watermain installation work will commence at the beginning of September and is expected to be completed by the beginning of October, 2021. The expected work times will be between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Access to the area will be maintained throughout the project, but expect single lane alternating traffic at times. Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists within the work area. Please note that limited parking will be available at Millard Lookout and street parking will not be permitted.
Watermain and service tie-ins are scheduled for mid-September, and will require a distruption to residential water services. The contractor will provide 48 hours written notice to residents for any disruption to water service or laneway access.
This project is being performed under an archaeological permit and will be monitored for heritage objects and associated materials by an archaeological consultant.
