The Development Services department ensures that land use aligns with the public’s interest. The department follows the Official Community Plan, zoning bylaws, building bylaws and the BC Building Code to make sure projects comply with the City’s bylaws and policies.
BC Building code changes
New requirements for adaptable dwellings and updates to seismic design standards took effect on March 10, 2025. Any building permit applications submitted on or after this date must comply with the BC Building Codes 2024 requirements.
