BC Housing: 925 Braidwood Road

BC Housing has purchased a three-acre property at 925 Braidwood Road in Courtenay for a proposed supportive housing development as well as a permanent, purpose-built shelter.

Rezoning was approved Council in August 2024 and formally adopted on September 11, 2024. The project will now move through the Development and Building Permit process and operator selection.

"The Junction," 988-8th Street

The Junction at 988 8th Street, Courtenay, provides 46 homes with supports for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and is funded by BC Housing.

Effective August 1, 2024 operation of The Junction transitioned from The John Howard Society of North Island to Lookout Housing and Health Society

Background

The City of Courtenay supported this project through a property lease to BC Housing valued at nearly half a million dollars over the 25-year lease term. The facility opened in April 2019.
