Road permits

A road permit is required for any construction and related works on City of Courtenay public land. This includes:

  • Closing a roadway, trail or park for construction.
  • Blocking sections of a sidewalk to work on private property.

What you need to apply

Top get approval, you must provide a:

  • Traffic Control Plan following the Ministry of Transportation and Transit's 2020 Traffic Manual for Work on Roadways (TMM) showing how pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be managed.
  • WorkSafe BC clearance letter.
  • BC One Call ticket number (if excavation is required).
  • Valid business licence.
  • Certificate of insurance with 
    • $5 million in liability coverage.
    • City of Courtenay listed as an additional insured.
    • 30-day Notice of Cancellation clause.
  • Completed and signed road permit application form
  • $100 permit fee paid in full.
