Recreation subsidies

The City of Courtenay offers two recreation subsidy programs for individuals and families with lower incomes. Both programs use Statistics Canada’s low-income measure, after tax (LIM-AT) to determine eligibility.

  • Recreation Access Program (RAP) is for City of Courtenay residents and provides discounts on registered programs.
  • Leisure for Everyone Accessibility Program (LEAP) is a regional program for Comox Valley residents and provides free drop-in access.

Recreation Access Program (RAP)

The Recreation Access Program (RAP) helps City of Courtenay residents with lower incomes access recreation programs.

RAP benefits

Annual discounts on registered programs:

  • Children: 75% discount, up to $450 per year
  • Youth: 75% discount, up to $400 per year
  • Adults: 50% discount, up to $350 per year

Leisure for Everyone Accessibility Program (LEAP)

LEAP is a regional financial access program for residents of the Comox Valley.

LEAP benefits

  • 52 free drop-in visits per year at participating Comox Valley recreation centres.
    • Drop-in visits include programs, services and activities such as swimming, fitness, Wellness Centre access, parent and tot programs, The LINC Youth Centre, skating and more.
  • $350 subsidy per family member for registered programs at participating Comox Valley recreation centres.

How to apply

Use the combined application form for RAP and LEAP, available below, and follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the application form.
  2. Bring the completed form to the Lewis of Florence Filberg centre along with proof of Comox Valley residency (for example, a utility bill or rental receipt) and a B.C. Services Card (for you and each family member applying).
  3. A staff member will review your application.
  4. You will be contacted when your recreation cards are ready for pickup.
