BC Housing: 925/933 Braidwood Road

In partnership with the City of Courtenay, BC Housing is building a new shelter at 925/933 Braidwood Road.

The shelter will have approximately 73 beds and capacity for 30 additional beds during extreme weather events. The building will include shared indoor and outdoor spaces, dining and laundry facilities, and office space for staff. The site will be fenced and include parking on-site.

Construction began in July 2026, and the shelter is expected to open in Spring 2028.

Shelter operator: Connective

BC Housing selected Connective to operate the shelter. Connective will manage the building and provide 24-hour support services for shelter guests. Learn more on the Connective website.

Supportive housing operator: Lookout Housing and Health Society

BC Housing selected Lookout Housing and Health Society through a fair and public process to operate the supportive housing. Lookout will manage the building and property and provide 24-hour support services to residents. Learn more on the Lookout Housing and Health Society website.

Winter shelter – 971 Cumberland Road


On October 1, 2025, Council approved a temporary use permit to allow winter shelter services until the new purpose-built shelter at 925 Braidwood Road opens in 2027.

Shelter location and partners

The shelter is located at 971 Cumberland Road on a City-owned property near the Operations Centre.

The facility is supported by community partners, including:

  • Comox Valley Regional District
  • City of Courtenay
  • Town of Comox
  • Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness
