The City of Courtenay has released its draft 2025 Annual Report, highlighting progress on Council’s 2023–2026 strategic priorities, significant community initiatives and the City’s audited financial statements. The report outlines work completed across transportation, housing, parks and recreation, climate action, public safety, infrastructure and organizational sustainability.
Highlights from 2025:
- Construction began on the 6th Street Active Transportation Bridge, creating a safer new connection across the Courtenay River for people walking, cycling and rolling.
- The City launched a redesigned website focused on accessibility, usability and improved public access to information and services.
- Courtenay completed its first full year operating electric vehicles for curbside solid waste collection, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 77 per cent compared to 2023.
- Council adopted Courtenay’s first Strategic Cultural Plan, establishing a 10-year framework to support arts, culture and heritage.
- McPhee Meadows opened to the public, adding an 11.8-acre riverside natural area with restored habitat, trails and public access near downtown.
Additional initiatives highlighted in the report include affordable housing planning, expanded urban forest and pollinator programs, record recreation participation, outdoor pool renewal planning, accessibility improvements and community well-being initiatives.

Under the Community Charter, municipalities are required to prepare an annual report before June 30 each year. Courtenay City Council will consider the report at its June 24, 2026, meeting at 4 p.m. in the Comox Valley Regional District Civic Room, 770 Harmston Avenue.
