The Comox Valley Regional District is reinstating a partial campfire ban. It will take effect at noon on Thursday, July 16, for the fire protection areas of Union Bay, Fanny Bay, Denman Island, and Hornby Island.
Please note that this change does not apply within the City of Courtenay or the Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas. All open burning is banned year-round in the City of Courtenay.
In Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas, campfires are not allowed under local fire protection area bylaws. Open burning for yard waste, industrial activities, or farming is also prohibited while the provincial fire ban is in place for category 2 and 3 open burning. As a result, all outdoor burning is currently banned in these areas.
Residents are encouraged to confirm the fire regulations that apply to their location before lighting any fire.
