Work is set to begin this fall on the Braidwood Infrastructure Upgrades project, which will renew aging water, storm, and sewer infrastructure and improve the safety, accessibility and connectivity of Braidwood Road.
“Braidwood Road is an important area for future growth in our community, and investing in infrastructure now will help ensure the area can grow safely and sustainably,” said Chris Davidson, Director of Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering at the City of Courtenay. “This project will renew underground infrastructure while also improving the experience for people walking, cycling and travelling along Braidwood Road.”
The existing water, sanitary and storm systems along Braidwood Road are nearing the end of their service life and will soon be unable to meet the demands associated with a growing community. Upgrading these systems will improve infrastructure reliability, restore service connections and improve stormwater management.
The project includes a full road rehabilitation of Braidwood Road, from Back Road to the cul-de-sac at the west end of the road.
Improvements include replacing and increasing the capacity of water, sanitary and storm drain systems, and making service upgrades to properties. Additionally, the project will result in improvements to the continuous sidewalk on the north side of the road, restoring concrete, curb, and gutter in some areas, new traffic signage, pavement markings and crosswalk beacons which will improve active transportation along this route.
Hazelwood Construction has been awarded the work. Construction on this $6.6 million project is anticipated to begin in mid-November and run through until late spring.
