The City of Courtenay is inviting residents to take part in a new community-building initiative designed to strengthen neighbourhood connections, celebrate everyday kindness and highlight what people love about where they live.
The Hello Neighbour initiative is part of the City’s Neighbourhood Network Strategy, which focuses on building social connection, community well-being, a sense of belonging and neighbourhood resilience. Through simple, inclusive actions, the initiative encourages residents of all ages and backgrounds to connect with neighbours and reflect on what makes their neighbourhood feel welcoming and meaningful.
“Hello Neighbour is about bringing people together, helping neighbours connect and building a stronger sense of belonging,” said Mayor Bob Wells. “We invite residents to share what they love about their neighbourhoods and be part of the small, everyday moments that make our communities stronger.”
Residents are encouraged to participate by reflecting on what being a good neighbour means to them and by sharing stories, photos or simple examples of neighbourliness. Participation is flexible and low barrier, and can happen at home, on the street, in parks or in shared neighbourhood spaces.
Residents are encouraged to take part online in several ways. Options include completing a short survey that asks, What makes a good neighbour? or pinning a story or photo about their neighbourhood to an interactive City map.
All forms of online participation are optional. Entries submitted online will be included in a random draw, with prizes available for participants and their neighbourhood.
The initiative builds on past community engagement and partner collaboration and is designed to be accessible and welcoming to residents across Courtenay. Stories and insights shared through Hello Neighbour will help inform and strengthen ongoing neighbourhood building efforts led by the City.
