The Comox Valley Regional District is lifting its campfire prohibition effective Friday, July 3 at 12 p.m. Category 2 and 3 fires are still prohibited within the Comox Valley.
Please note that this change does not apply within the City of Courtenay or the Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas. All open burning is banned year-round in the City of Courtenay.
In Courtenay Fire Department's fire protection areas, campfires are not allowed under local fire protection area bylaws. Open burning for yard waste, industrial activities, or farming is also prohibited while the provincial fire ban is in place for category 2 and 3 open burning. As a result, all outdoor burning is currently banned in these areas.
Residents are encouraged to confirm the fire regulations that apply to their location before lighting any fire.
