Supportive housing is subsidized housing with on-site supports. Residents are adults aged 19 and older who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This can include seniors and people with disabilities.
Residents apply to live in supportive housing, sign program agreements and pay rent.
Typical supports include:
- 24-hour staffing
- daily meals
- life skills and employment training
- access to health supports
- connections to community services

In partnership with the City of Courtenay, BC Housing is building 70 small studio homes for local residents who need support to maintain stable housing.

The Junction at 988 8th Street
The Junction provides 46 homes with supports for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The project is funded by BC Housing and is located at 988 8th Street in Courtenay.
Lookout Housing and Health Society operates the Junction. The John Howard Society of North Island previously operated the program.

Background
The City of Courtenay supported this project through a 25-year lease of City property to BC Housing. The value of the lease is nearly $500,000 over the term. The facility opened in April 2019.
