Notice of nomination — 2026 general local elections

Nominations will be accepted for the following offices:

  • Mayor — one person to be elected
  • Councillor — six people to be elected
  • School District No. 71 (Comox Valley) School Trustee, Trustee Electoral Area 1 — two people to be elected

Nominations will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person.

Qualifications for local government office

To be nominated, elected and hold office as a member of local government, a person must:

  • be a Canadian citizen
  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 17, 2026
  • be a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed, March 10, 2026 or earlier
  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia, being nominated, being elected or holding office, and not otherwise be disqualified by law

Qualifications for School Trustee

To be nominated, elected and hold office as a School Trustee, a person must:

  • be a Canadian citizen
  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 17, 2026
  • be a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed, March 10, 2026 or earlier
  • not be disqualified under the School Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia, being nominated, being elected or holding office as a trustee, and not otherwise be disqualified by law

Under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the following candidate expense limits apply during the campaign period:
