About the project

The City of Courtenay is installing new electric vehicle (EV) chargers at City Hall and the Operational Services Yard to charge electric fleet vehicles.

The project includes:

  • Three dual-head Level 2 chargers at City Hall
  • One dual-head Level 3 fast charger at the Operational Services Yard

Why this project is needed

The charging infrastructure will support the City’s electric fleet vehicles.

The Zero-Emissions Vehicle Fleet Transition Plan guides the replacement of gas and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles while maintaining safe and reliable City services. This plan specifies the charging infrastructure and electrical upgrades required to support the fleet over time. This project is part of a multi-year plan to install electric vehicle chargers at fleet parking locations.

By adopting electric fleet vehicles, the City will save money on fuel and reduce annual emissions to meet provincially legislated reduction targets, and City of Courtenay Official Community Plan emission targets.

Construction impacts

Construction will take place at City Hall and the Operational Services Yard.

Construction impacts may include temporary parking and parking lot access restrictions.

City Hall will remain open throughout construction, and every effort will be made to minimize disruptions for staff and visitors.
