Parade and event permits

Organize an Event or Parade

The City of Courtenay recognizes the importance of community events in contributing to the quality of life, local community economic development and community identity. Events bring people together to have fun, to mark important events, or to work towards a higher purpose.

We want you to have a fun, safe, memorable event.

Courtenay has two event permitting options:

  • Parade and Event Permits – parades, walks, races, bike events, small events, and any event that uses a City of Courtenay public right-of-way, such as a road or sidewalk.
  • Special Event Licence – complex, multi-day events, events with over 1000 attendees and with a direct or indirect fee (i.e. vendor fees).

The focus of event approvals is to make sure that events are safe, and don’t negatively affect the community. City staff are here to help you navigate our permitting process. If you are interested in planning and event within the City of Courtenay, please submit this initial event inquiry form and a staff member will connect with you to discuss your event and ensure you are on the right permitting path.

City park and facility rentals

If your event includes the use of a City park or facility, you must book the space separately. View the parks and facilities rental directory for booking information.
