Courtenay Outdoor Pool

• Lane swim: For lap swimming or lap-based movement. Swimmers are organized into lanes by speed to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
• Open swim: Unstructured recreational swimming open to everyone — families, children and adults. Come to play, splash and socialize.
• Aquafit: An instructor-led water aerobics class. Low-impact and easy on the joints, with cardiovascular and strength benefits.

Lane availability varies depending on other pool activities such as rentals and swimming lessons. When two sessions run at the same time, the pool is divided using lane ropes. Staff determine the exact allocation.

• Parking at the Lewis Centre is limited. Overflow parking is available at The LINC Youth Centre across the street or in Lewis Park through the totem pole entrance. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to find a space.
• There are no lockers at this facility. Keep all belongings in the designated viewing and seating areas on the pool deck. Staff aren't able to monitor or hold personal items, and the facility isn't responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property.
• If your child has taken swimming lessons before, bring their latest report card to the first lesson.
• Sunscreen and UV-protective swim clothing are recommended.

Swimmers must:

• wear clean, appropriate swimwear
• shower before entering the pool
• keep children under 7 within arm's reach of a responsible adult (16+) at all times
• dive only in designated areas
• follow all instructions from pool staff
• report any injuries, concerns or incidents — including pool fouling — to a lifeguard

Not permitted:

• entering the pool when ill or with open sores, bandages or contagious conditions
• swimming without a lifeguard or instructor present
• food, gum or drinks in the pool area (water in non-glass containers is OK)
• running, roughhousing or unsafe behaviour
• foul language or aggressive conduct
• drugs, alcohol or being under their influence
• smoking or vaping
• tempered glass masks or goggles

Staff may refuse entry or remove anyone who violates these rules. In an emergency, follow staff direction — a whistle may signal an emergency in the pool area.

The Outdoor Pool includes a pool lift for swimmers with mobility needs. 

The pool has designated male and female changerooms. If you prefer a gender-neutral space, speak with any aquatics staff member — they can direct you to the gender-neutral family changerooms on the pool deck. Gender-neutral washrooms are also available for all pool patrons at the Lewis Centre.
