Public notice is hereby given that advance registration for non-resident property electors closes at 4:30 p.m. on August 25, 2026.
Advance non-resident property elector registration
Are you eligible to vote in the general local elections for Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee?
Is your name on the current list of non-resident property electors?
Advance non-resident property elector registrations will be accepted at Courtenay City Hall until 4:30 p.m. on August 25, 2026.
Elector registrations will not be accepted from August 26 to October 18, 2026, but will be accepted on voting days.
Non-resident property elector qualifications
To register as a non-resident property elector, you must:
- be 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting
- be a Canadian citizen
- have lived in British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day of registration
- have been a registered owner of real property in the City of Courtenay for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration
- be an individual registered as an owner of the property, either as a joint tenant or tenant in common, and not hold the property in trust for a corporation or another trust
- not be entitled to register as a resident elector
- not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting, and not otherwise be disqualified by law
If more than one person is registered as an owner of the property, only one may register as a non-resident property elector. That person must have the written consent of the majority of the owners.

List of registered electors
Beginning September 1, 2026, until the close of general voting on October 17, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection at:
Courtenay City Hall
830 Cliffe Avenue
Courtenay, B.C.
Office hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement confirming that they will not inspect the list, make copies or use information from the list except for the purposes of Part 3 — Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
Request to omit or obscure
An elector may request that their address or other personal information be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors.
The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Election Officer to make this request.
Objection to registration of an elector
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made under the Local Government Act until 4 p.m. on September 11, 2026.
An objection must:
- be submitted in writing
- be made by a person entitled to register as an elector of the City of Courtenay
- be based only on the grounds that the person named on the list has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of the City of Courtenay
