New Brookfield Park playground
The new playground at Brookfield Park opened in March 2025. Designed with input from the community, the space includes modern, inclusive play features for children of all ages and abilities, including swings, slides and other engaging structures.
Woodcote Park playground replacement project
The City of Courtenay is replacing the aging playground at Woodcote Park with a new, inclusive play space guided by Courtenay's new Park Playground Design Standards. Construction is expected to start in the late fall 2025 and take two to three months. The project is primarily funded through the Province of B.C.’s Growing Communities Fund.
Update August 26, 2025:
Woodcote Park will be closed August 26 to September 19 for updates to drainage and irrigation and playground removal. The park will reopen on September 20 but the sports field will remain closed until October 17 for grass to grow along the new irrigation lines. The existing playground will be removed in preparation for a new playground to be installed in the late fall 2025.
The current irrigation system is nearly 25 years old and no longer meets modern water efficiency standards. A new electric system will improve performance and support conservation. Drainage will also be added to improve field conditions, making play safer and more reliable during wet weather.
