BC Housing: 925 Braidwood Road

BC Housing purchased a three-acre property at 925 Braidwood Road in March 2024 for a proposed supportive housing development and a permanent, purpose-built shelter.

Council approved the site's rezoning on September 11, 2024, and development permits were issued in April 2025. With the required building and archaeological permits in place, construction is expected to begin in summer 2026.

Shelter and supportive housing operators

Shelter operator: Connective

BC Housing selected Connective through a fair and public process to operate the shelter. Connective will manage the building and property and provide 24/7 support services to the shelter's guests. Learn more about Connective on the Connective website.

Supportive housing operator: Lookout Housing and Health Society

BC Housing selected Lookout Housing and Health Society through a fair and public process to operate the supportive housing. Lookout will manage the building and property and provide 24/7 support services to residents. Learn more about Lookout on the Lookout Housing and Health Society website.

Project background

"The Junction," 988-8th Street

The Junction at 988 8th Street, Courtenay, provides 46 homes with supports for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The project is funded by BC Housing.

Lookout Housing and Health Society operates The Junction as of August 1, 2024. The program previously operated under The John Howard Society of North Island.

Background

The City of Courtenay supported this project through a property lease to BC Housing valued at nearly $500,000 over the 25-year lease term. The facility opened in April 2019.
